Belden just paid $1.85 billion for Ruckus Networks

Belden’s Ruckus deal shows a push toward full network ownership, from cables to cloud-managed Wi-Fi, as customers look for simpler, single-vendor solutions

Belden just paid $1.85 billion for Ruckus Networks

Belden, a long-established industrial networking company, has agreed to acquire Ruckus Networks from Vistance Networks for about 1.85 billion dollars in cash. Vistance, formerly part of CommScope, had recently split its business, leaving Ruckus as a standalone unit. Belden moved quickly to pick it up, with the deal expected to close in the second half of 2026, pending approvals.

Ruckus brings a large installed base, with more than 48,000 customers across hospitality, education, healthcare, and manufacturing. Its core products include Wi-Fi 7 access points built for dense environments, the ICX switching platform, and a cloud system called Ruckus One that manages both wired and wireless networks.

For Belden, the logic is clear. The company has long focused on cables, fiber, and industrial networking gear, along with some industrial wireless. What it did not have was a strong enterprise Wi-Fi or campus switching business. Ruckus fills that gap. Instead of selling just the physical layer, Belden can now offer a more complete setup that includes both infrastructure and the systems that run on top of it.

Why it matters comes down to how networks are bought and built. Many organizations want fewer vendors and systems that work together out of the box. This deal puts Belden in a position to offer both wired and wireless networking as one package. It also strengthens its hand in industries like manufacturing, where connectivity is becoming more complex.

Looking ahead, the focus shifts to execution. Belden will need to integrate Ruckus products, teams, and sales channels while managing the cost of the deal. There is also overlap on the software side, with Belden’s Horizon platform and Ruckus One, which may eventually be combined.

The bigger bet is on the future of industrial networking. Belden expects wireless to take a larger role over time, especially as newer Wi-Fi standards improve reliability. If that shift happens as expected, this deal gives Belden a stronger position in both industrial and enterprise networks.

Brocade Communications, Arris International, and CommScope are among the previous owners of Ruckus.
